Kate E Pickett Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology had some very interesting remarks to make about the studies she had been involved with concerning the ratios between wealth and health and how they differed from one nation to another.
I am further of opinion that it would be better for us to have [no laws] at all than to have them in so prodigious numbers as we have.

The gist is that material wellbeing (health and social indicators) do not follow the money. The largest economy in the World - the USA - is nowhere the longest lived, the healthiest, the best educated, the best housed, the best fed, the most free, the most democratic etc etc.
The best turn out not to be the richest, but the most egalitarian. That's not a surprise for some of us...

I've got to look more closely at Ms. Pickett's work.

Do you remember in this segment that some man asked if it were OK to lend money to "stupid people"?
I don't think he ever got a logical and concise answer.
