I hate to be the one coming up with all the topics, but this world is too interesting to not talk about.

On 20/20 (i think) there was a special on myth that a guy does every other month or so. one of the myths was, "WERE RUNNING OUT OF OIL!!!"

They said thats not true, and that we're simply running out of cheap oil, which is fairly clean and easy to find.

The expense oil is found mixed in with dirt. The expensive part is separating it from the dirt with water or blah blah blah. One guy said that a small part of canada had enough oil for the WORLD to use for a 100 YEARS!

The reason why nobody was tapping these vast plains of oil is because it wasn't profitable, but as the price keeps rising it will be. Some people have already started. So the price might be 4 or five dollars (US) per gallon after the large cheap reserves dry up but atleast we'll still have oil.

All we ever really have is a success of "technology crises". The solution to which is always whatever is most economically viable. As the useful exploitation of hydrocarbon deposits become more expensive, the viability of the alternatives will improve, causing the market to switch to those alternatives. That is the basic capitalist mechanism which is already funding the development of Hydrogen fuel and the Fusion you've raised in another post.

The real relevance of the Oil economy is the corruption of the political process which it has produced but that, in turn, is an almost inevitable spin off from the capitalist system. Once we transfer our dependence to Hydrogen and Fusion, we will no doubt see the same corruption and control in those sectors.
